The Easynews Pro Tip Challenge allowed savvy Usenet users to showcase their expertise of Easynews Global Search by sharing advice with other users. We wanted newcomers and veterans alike to get the very most out of their Easynews experience. Within two weeks, over 500 tips were submitted and we are pleased to showcase the cream of the crop. No matter your experience level, these pro tips can help any user become an Easynews expert in no time.

  • Setting up multiple threads will increase productive download time -Kevin T.
  • Download the items you want just don't load from website -Arnett R.
  • Watch the Tutorial on the global search engine -Ashneel P.
  • Use the Advanced search to detail options like size of file or file type (epub or avi etc) -John G.
  • Just use the web interface - it's very good :) -Peter B.
  • Linux Users use the Axel downloader to speed up your transfers. -Chris E.
  • Use "Ranges" to help select a range of files by checking the start, checking the end, then clicking Ranges to select the in-between files so you don't have to click each file individually in the web listings. -James
  • When you add files to the Zip Manager, make sure you give them a name. Combine this with "Use Next Empty as Default" means you get a new zip files with that name making for easy categorized downloads. -James
  • You get more gigs with NNTP. But that doesn't turn Easynews into a regular old NNTP provider - you can use their web interface to create NZBs easily to feed into sabnzbd or other tool. Easy! -James
  • Are your Zip Manager queues expiring too quickly for you? Purchase the extended retention tiers to get added time. -James
  • Read up about some of the basic history of Usenet so you'll understand how groups are organized. It will help you to find what you are looking for faster. -Chad B.

  • Using Route Selector Tool can speed up your tranfers -Raymond G.
  • Use the not (!) and or (|) operators in global search to vastly reduce the amount of junk returned. Example: "Sausages ! sample|xxx|german|french" will return results for sausages, but omit a lot of unwanted foreign language, sample files and adult material. Make sure to filter the groups similarly. -Richard A.
  • Use a download agent to speed up your downloads by several times -Richard P.
  • Filter avi files by size, to get a specific resolution -Roman T.
  • Put "! vol[0-9]{1,6}\+[0-9]{1,6}" without quotes in the subject field of the Global4 search form and "par" in the file extension field to return only the small par files of posts. You can then use the parviewer link to easily show all the files of the post grouped together. -z121959
